The prevalence of drugs related traffic crimes and accidents are a growing problem, and the police today lack any viable tools to test or prove drug use like they can for alcohol.
As of now, they solely rely on their gut feelings and experience in detecting signs for drug use,
User centric research and validation with real officers was a core part of our project.
We also used shorter design sprints to quickly build, test and evaluate our ideas.
substance:ID is a portable tool to test for drug use out in the field.
The test is done through a new guided procedure where the suspect places their fingers on a testing cartridge and the sweat from their fingertips is enough for the device to analyze and detect any potential traces of drugs in their system with high accuracy.
Allowing them to test more frequently potentially removing more dangerous drivers from the road.
11 interview in total with real police officers gave us valuable insignts both durintg research and testing.
